WHAT LURKS BELOW

I thought I'd give you all a peek into "dungeon" as we call it. Both of my boys have rooms down here and it is more often than not a total disaster!! I have not done much decorating down there yet, but I thought I'd show off a few of my favorite basement bargains.

Hubs finished off all 1300 sqaure feet of this basement. We saved a bundle that way!! He did such a great job and I'm so proud of all his talents!! This is a view of the stairwell. I think he did a great job on the trim work and it adds so much charachter. The chandelier was a clearance find. Nothing fancy, but for $25 I think it looks great!!

This chair was free!! I picked it up out of someones garbage. Yes, I am a dumpster diver. My oldest was with me when I found this one. He slumped down in his seat and muttered "Help me." He cracks me up!!

This outdated sofa is slipcovered with a Waverly fabric that I found at a yard sale for $10.

The family photos are my fave. The frames were a Hobby Lobby half off deal and the black and white prints were $3 a peice. They make the room feel very homey. I plan on adding some other items around the photo display...just not sure what yet. The photos alone look a bit lonely to me.

The daughters little rocker sprayed black. It gives her a place to sit and color at the coffee table.

Needlepoint pillow $.25

I love this picture!! Goodwill!

The red trunk was $10. I found it at an estate sale. I thought it would be great for storage, but the smell grosses me out and I'm to lazy to do anything about it.

This is where the real wood doors reside at our place. In the basement. I remember the day that we hung them. I wanted to kiss them all over!!

There ya have it. That's what lurks below at our place. I'll save the boys rooms for another day and another post.
Hope your all well. It was sixty degrees here today. Wooohoooo!! I opened the windows and aired the joint out!!
Talk to yall soon!
Jen

I would like to know what color of paint you have put on your walls...I love it!
You have decorated your basement beautifully on a budget, yet it looks very high end...Great job!

Well you "dungeon" looks great! I think you need to come up with a new name to call it.

I'm very fond of the chandelier cause it's hanging in my dining room. Enjoy the warm weather Jen!

Wow, your basement looks amazing! I think you did a wonderful job decorating it! :) I have to tell you, the picture you said was a Goodwill find is very familiar to me. Growing up, my parents had a giant painting of this hanging up in the living room. Brings back such good memories! :)

I love the black and white photos, and I can't believe you found that adorable chair in the garbage! That's amazing! :)

I hope you have a great weekend! :)

Jen - I am so jealous of your basement. We don't have basements in Oregon - at least not in newer homes. I have to admit, I didn't like the basements when we visited my relatives in Minnesota. So dark, smelly, and dreary. I love to see happy basements like yours!

the room is lively and cozy...
that sure does make for a fun family room where everyone has his own place do to stuff.
do you think of putting a large tv there?

Love what you have done with the basement. With regards to the odor in the trunk. Put unused coffee grounds in a large shallow bowl and place in the trunk for a week or so...or do the same with kitty litter. Try the coffee grounds first.

How great to have a basement! I have some waverly fabrics around my livingroom. The vintage roses fabric resides here too!
Oh for the smell you can dump some b baking soda in there. It's the best at eliminating and absorbing odor. We use it for different things and even in our laundry.

I really like this room. Love the reds with black accents. And the little rocker is adorable! What does your trunk smell like that is so bad? Haha..just curious. Is it just old and musty-smelling inside? Hope you can find a quick fix for that!
